ICF Catalog Management Workshop




SUMMARY:   Suitable for the BCS Mainframe Technology professional Exams for level 2 Engineer (Data Storage) and Level 3 Consultant (z/OS)

AUDIENCE:   This course is for Storage administrators, systems programmers, operations analysts or anyone responsible for building, managing and maintaining ICF catalogs.

PREREQUISITES:   The participant should have knowledge of the z/OS environment, along with experience with JCL and VSAM datasets.

DURATION:   3 days. Hands on.

OBJECTIVES:   After taking this course the student should be able to:



  • Define the structure and function of an ICF catalog
  • Create and maintain ICF catalogs
  • Understand the associations between the differing VVDS and BCS records
  • Identify and determine an error in a catalog structure
  • Define procedures to diagnose, backup and recover catalog, whilst ensuring a high level of system availability
